Sri Lankan Herbal plants (Травяные растения Шри-Ланки)

 

Sri Lanka has numerous herbal plants, many used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, such as gotu kola (Centellaasiatica)for memory and wound healing, neem (Azadirachtaindica) for skin and detoxification, and turmeric (Curcumalonga) for inflammation. Other common herbs include venivel (Cosciniumfenestratum), iRIVERIYA (Plectranthuszeylanicus), and various plants in the Acacia and Bauhinia genera.  

Examples of herbal plants in Sri Lanka.    

Gotu kola: (Centellaasiatica): Used to enhance memory and heal wounds. 

Neem: (Azadirachtaindica): Known for its detoxifying and skin-clearing benefits. 

Turmeric: (Curcumalonga): A staple ingredient that is also used for its anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting properties. 

Venivel: (Cosciniumfenestratum): A potent antibacterial herb.

 Iriveriya: (Plectranthuszeylanicus): Known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

 Arulu: (Terminaliachebula): Also known as chebulic myrobalan. 

Jungle geranium: (Jatrophacurcas): Used in traditional medicine.

 Shoe flower: (Hibiscusrosa-sinensis): Used for various home remedies. 

Mee: (Madhucalongifolia): A plant found in southern Sri Lanka. 

Nika: (Vitexnegundo): Used in traditional practices. 

Long pepper: (Piperlongum): Used in traditional medicine. 


Uses and cultural significance.

These plants are vital to traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, used to prepare remedies like decoctions, powders, and oils.

Beyond medicine, many of these herbs are integral to Sri Lankan culture and are used in cooking, and for spa treatments.

The presence of these plants reflects a deep connection between Sri Lankan culture and its natural environment.
